The Hunger Games p. 196-205
When Katniss finally finds Rue, it is too late. One of the people from District 2 had got to her first. Katniss witnessed the person stab the fatal wound through Rue's stomach. Without even thinking, Katniss picked up her bow and arrow and shot the boy who injured Rue straight through the heart. Katniss went up to Rue and looked her in the face. Katniss asked if she could do anything, if anything, before she died. Except, all Rue wanted was a song to be sung. So, even thought Katniss didn't know many songs, she sang Rue the only song she knew as she died. As soon as Rue died, Katniss, without even thinking, braided Rue's hair and covered it in flowers from the surrounding areas. As she did so, she knew that the Capitol would take it as the wrong way. She knew it was a threat saying the Hunger Games shouldn't exsist, but she did it anyways. She then walked away, knowing that someone else might be waiting to strike. Katniss looked behind herself after walking about a mile and saw Rue's body being lifted up into the air, and a trail of flowers following close behind
